The original spa dates back to the beginning of the 18th century when the extraordinary medicinal properties of the sulphurous waters and springs that surrounded the small village of Carratraca became almost legendary. It was the Romans, and later the Arabs who first discovered the health benefits of the waters flowing from the heart of Sierra Blanquilla. Although local tradition state that it was the shepherds who were the first to recognise the healing properties of the waters of Carratraca and used them to treat any sick animals amongst their flocks.

The spring waters are classified as sulphurated, calcic and magnesium and emanates at 18º Celsius.

The spa waters of Carratraca are recommended for skin, respiratory, gynaecological, nervous, rheumatic and traumatology problems. The antioxidant properties of the waters make them ideal for facial, body and beauty treatments as well as rejuvenation programs.

Los orígenes del edificio del Balneario se remontan a principios del siglo XVIII, cuando los extraordinarios poderes curativos de las aguas sulfurosas y los manantiales que rodeaban la pequeña población de Carratraca tenían una reputación casi legendaria. Situados en plena Sierra Blanquilla, los romanos, y siglos después los árabes, descubrieron que las aguas de los manantiales de la zona tenían efectos beneficiosos para la salud. Según la tradición local, los pastores fueron los primeros en darse cuenta de que las aguas de Carratraca podían curar a los animales enfermos de sus rebaños.

Las aguas son calificadas como minero-medicinales: sulfurosas, cálcicas y magnésicas. El agua del manantial emana a18º.

Las aguas del manantial de Carratraca son aconsejables para la curación de afecciones en la piel, aparato respiratorio, ginecológico, sistema nervioso, reumatismos y traumatología.
